“By small and simple things are great things brought to pass.”
The older I get, the more this simple scripture rings true. I’m discovering each day that it’s the small things that make me the happiest.
This morning I moseyed around my home and realized that it’s the simple, personal touches that have become my favorite decorations. Here are five simple decorations that make my heart sing.
When my granddaughter comes over, I have a book and a stuffed animal waiting for Oakley on “her” chair. I’ve collected hundreds of children’s books and dozens of stuffed animals over the years, so this is easy to throw together. She looks forward to one-on-one “nana” time, reading books together while she cuddles the stuffed animal.
These cute bikes sit on the front porch of the children’s playhouse in our backyard. I love the bright colors and whimsical look. Oakley loves to pick me a flower from the basket… so sweet! (I had to move the bikes from the porch so I could get a better picture. Oh—and I wanted to show off my only “real” blooming flower in the background!)
I love handwritten cards and life event announcements. I ALWAYS hang them on my fridge so I can remember on a daily basis how blessed I am to have so many wonderful people in my life. I especially love looking at the new graduates who are ready to go out and conquer the world! It gives me hope for the future of our world.
I am seriously in love with my Letter Folk board. It goes with every decoration style and can be completely customized. I change up my Letter Folk board weekly and this week’s message just seems so appropriate surrounded by these cute amusement park rides that I just purchased. They light up and have really cool sounds and Oakley loves turning them on and off.
When we moved to this house 13 years ago, I had a huge frame built and life-sized chairs hung inside. Each chair represents each member of our family. The theme “No Empty Chairs” is a daily reminder of what we all ultimately want—to be together forever.
Of course, there are a hundred-million things that I love in my house, but these personal touches truly turn it into a home. Leave me a comment and let me know what your favorite simple ways to personalize your decorations!
