For this week’s small and simple things post, I want to share more photos that I captured while I was in Houston helping to clean out some of the wreckage from Hurricane Harvey.
The woman that I stayed with while I was in Houston worked tirelessly to clean the shoes of those affected by the flooding. You don’t realize just how important the small and simple things in your life–like shoes!–can be until they’ve been ruined. I was so touched by this quiet act of service and snapped a shot of her labors to remind myself to be grateful for what I have and continually find ways to serve others.
I saw multiple American flags peeking out amid all the chaos and destruction. My heart couldn’t help but swell with a little patriotism when I saw these flags surrounded by so many helping hands from across the nation, banding together to help our country in need.
I was so uplifted by this flowering tree–proof that life can flourish in even the most disastrous circumstances. It was a beautiful sight in an otherwise dim environment.
